Michigan State basketball is going to reportedly retain a very important assistant after Jon Borovich received interest from Central Michigan
For a second time this offseason, Michigan State basketball will retain one of its top assistant coaches from leaving for a mid-major head coaching gig.
Tony Paul of The Detroit News is reporting that Central Michigan will hire Ferris State head coach Andy Bronkema for the same role with the Chippewas. This is significant news for the Spartans as Michigan State assistant coach Jon Borovich was considered the other finalists for the position.
Borovich just wrapped up his third season with the Spartans and is quickly becoming one of the most important members of the Spartans’ basketball program. Borovich played for Central Michigan from 1997 to 2001, and had previously been reported as a “hot” name in the coaching search. Paul had also posted on social media X platform that Borovich was one of the two remaining finalists before he broke the news of Bronkema getting the nod.
This is big news for the Spartans and the coaching staff to keep a young rising coach like Borovich. It’s unclear if Borovich turned down an offer from Central Michigan or if the Chips chose Bronkema over him, but either way, this is a win for the Spartans.
