Do We Have a Reigning Summer Sneaker? Celebs Are Split

After multiple consecutive Samba Summers, we’re heading into the warmer months with something of an empty throne. With the absence of an obvious reigning summer sneaker, several shoes are rushing to fill the power vacuum. The easiest way to accomplish this? Celebrity style.

When it comes to celebrity sneaker allegiance, there seems to be a staunch division between Team Slim and Team Chunky. Jennifer Lawrence is bidding for ongoing Adidas supremacy, wearing a pair of white Tokyos with cherry red stripes, as is Bad Bunny, who sat courtside at Madison Square Garden in bright yellow Ballerinas; Dua Lipa, meanwhile, is keen on the sleek black Puma Speedcats. Harry Styles and Cara Delevingne both made the case for designer tennies in Prada Collapse Re-nylons—Styles’s in a vibrant yellow, Delevingne’s in all black.

On the other hand, some of our favorite street style stars are embracing the bulk. Bella Hadid stepped out in London wearing a pair of Nike Air Max 95s, while Amelia Gray folded black Asics Gel Venture 8s into her model-off-duty wardrobe. But perhaps nobody is more committed than Taraji P. Henson, whose outsized Lanvin lace-ups took the cake.

The sneaker vacuum has also allowed for a return to form for some: Charli xcx, Robert Pattinson, and Olivia Rodrigo have all turned to tried-and-true black Converse Chuck Taylors in recent months. Does it just so happen that we’ve had the answer to our sneaker dilemma all along?

Below, see how celebrities are styling a summer sneaker. Now you must decide: are you Team Slim or Team Chunky?
