J.K. Dobbins meeting with Denver Broncos, per report

A reigning playoff team in the AFC could be getting some reinforcements on offense.

The Denver Broncos are meeting with former Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins on Thursday, June 5, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Dobbins missed four games in 2024 but had a career-high 905 rushing yards and nine touchdowns for the Chargers as the lead running back.

Denver prioritized running back in the draft by selecting UCF’s RJ Harvey in Round 2. He’s a dynamic open-field runner and rounds out a room with multiple younger players, including 2024 fifth-round pick Audric Estime.

Dobbins would not likely be a primary back in Denver which would alleviate injury concerns. He played in 15 games as a rookie in 2020 with Baltimore but missed the entire 2021 season with a torn ACL suffered in the preseason. He missed the first two games in 2022 to finish his recovery, but another knee injury forced him to miss six games. In 2023, he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 and missed the rest of the season.

His 11 starts in 2024 was a career-high, and his 13 games played were second only to his rookie season.

When healthy, Dobbins is an effective runner. His 69.6 rushing yards per game in 2024 ranked 10th league-wide and he’s yet to turn the ball over since his rookie season.

That career-best season for the Chargers in 2024 wasn’t enough to keep them from going a different direction at the position. They signed Najee Harris in free agency and used their top draft pick on North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton.

Dobbins is entering his age-27 season and could find a home elsewhere for 2025 if the Broncos do not move forward with a contract.

Broncos RB depth chart

Whether Dobbins signs or not, Denver’s running back room looks different than it did in 2024 with the addition of Harvey. Here’s who is on the roster heading into minicamp:

The team also has fullback Michael Burton signed to the active roster.

Harvey and Estime were additions via the draft in 2025 and 2024, respectively. McLaughlin signed as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and enjoyed a career-best year in 2024 with 572 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.

Badie was an undrafted free agent in 2022 and has been a depth piece for the Broncos since signing late in the 2022 season. He had 11 carries for 86 yards in three games last season. Watson was an undrafted free agent in 2024 and had 10 yards on four carries as a rookie.
