Romano: “Chelsea made contact” – Liam Delap transfer details revealed

It’s a Tuesday, which means Fabrizio Romano is here with a big transfer video for us all to enjoy.

It’s not got a heavy Chelsea theme this time around, at least until later in the video, when the transfer insider got onto the subject of Liam Delap, the Ipswich striker we’ve been linked with very heavily recently, especially after a fixed release clause in his contract was revealed by the self same Romano:

“There is this relegation clause £30m… one of the most interesting strikers in England is available for £30m if Ipswich are relegated. But I can tell you that, even before we know if that clause will be valid or not, now, Man U and Chelsea have both made contact with people close to the player,” Romano said in his video released today.

“Both Man U and Chelsea are exploring this opportunity, asking how this clause works, asking about the potential salary. So they are exploring a move.”

You can see the insider speaking in the clip embedded here:

Romano also revealed in the same video that Chelsea worked on a deal in January, something our writer Simon Phillips revealed at the time, potentially giving us a head start on the competition:

“Already in January, Chelsea were working on Delap. Chelsea have Enzo Maresca who knows the player so well… so they have their own cards, their own options to offer to the player. But now in terms of contacts, something is starting, the first calls, the first conversations… but I think Delap is one of the names we’re going to mention a lot in the summer transfer window.”

It sounds like it could be quite the saga – but there’s no doubt we’re in a strong position to win this race.
