2027 QB Woods enjoys camp experience at West Virginia

Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College High quarterback Nyeem Woods had been to West Virginia before but his stop for a one-day camp might have been his best yet.

And he has the scholarship offer to show for it.

Woods, 6-foot-1, 179-pounds, was highly impressed with the experience and the campus and surrounding area.

During the course of the event, Woods received plenty of good feedback on how he could improve on the field and spent time speaking with quarterbacks coach Rhett Rodriguez along with head coach Rich Rodriguez and others.

“As a player they like my arm strength and accuracy as well as my athletic abilities,” he said.

The 2027 signal caller was impressed with the way that the coaching staff managed the camp, especially with a willingness to coach all of the players in attendance.

“Nowadays with the portal coaches would be scared to coach their guys because they’re afraid of them leaving but at WVU everything was firm and ran with a certain type of discipline and aggression,” Woods said.

Woods is coming off a season where he threw for 1,200 yards and had a total of 18 total touchdowns and the Mountaineers coaching staff gave him the news that they would be offering him a scholarship following the event.

“I had an Idea after meeting with coach Rich Rodriguez he told me he was impressed with me at the camp and that we’ll be keeping in contact and I had gotten a text message saying that they’d talked it over and I had gotten the offer. My reaction was pure excitement couldn’t do anything but give God the glory for allowing something like that to happen,” he said.

The plan is for Woods to return to West Virginia again at some point in the future and also is working on scheduling other camp stops as well to round out the month.
