Cher Embraces Labubu Craze at Tribeca Film Festival 2025

Cher joined a bevy of high-profile guests for the premiere of “My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay” at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival on Friday in New York City. The festival concluded on Sunday night.

For the occasion, the Oscar-winning “Moonstruck” actress styled a biker-inspired look and embraced the ongoing Labubu accessory craze. Cher wore a pair of wide-leg, high-waisted black trousers with a white stripe detail on the outer sides of the pantlegs.

She paired the pants with a long-sleeve fitted top featuring squares of comic strip characters in various shades from black and white to blue, yellow and red. Atop her long-sleeve shirt, Cher wore a black leather vest, adding some edgy flair.

A key element of the mononymous “Believe” singer’s look, however, was her Labubu accessory, which was attached to her black bag. Manufactured by Chinese toymaker Pop Mart, these accessories rose in popularity at the start of 2025. The fluffy little figurines, featuring cartoonish grins and spiky teeth, appeared all over social media, with influencers and even royalty adding these cuddly creatures to their handbags and purses.

Created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, the Labubu accessories feature characters such as the original Labubu, first designed in 2015, as well as Zimomo, Spooky, Tycoco and Pato. Lung signed a licensing agreement with Pop Mart in 2019.

Among the most famous faces to embrace the Labubu trend, Blackpink singer and “The White Lotus” star Lisa frequently posts off-duty looks with the bag charm and larger sized stuffed animal versions. The Louis Vuitton brand ambassador even accessorized her Vuitton bags with Labubu.

Amy Melissa, a Singapore-based Labubu collector, shared with WWD the cultural significance and impact of the Labubu accessory. “To me, Labubu is more than just a designer toy,” she said. “It’s a fashion statement. I love attaching them to my designer bags as unique accessories, and the ability to dress them up in stylish outfits makes them even more relevant in fashion conversations.”
