Editors’ Picks are the Fashionista team’s true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.

After writing about “deconsumption,” I kept seeing examples of it in my day-to-day — frequency illusion is real, but when I went to a meeting with the slow-fashion brand Four, I couldn’t help but see parallels to just about every aspect of the rising shift in consumer behavior.

On a basic level, Four, founded by two fashion industry veterans, is defined by thoughtful design and responsible production. It releases only four new items per year, to reach a final total of 16 in 2026. From there, it will iterate on existing designs, releasing small batches in new fabrications and colorways. The brand prioritizes responsible sourcing, organic and deadstock materials and supporting ethical, womxn-owned manufacturing partners, which is great, but the design and quality of each product is just as noteworthy. It’s a brand that really does convince you that you don’t need an array of different button-downs, chunky knits or high-waisted trousers in your closet; one or two really really good ones will do.

My personal obsession from the brand’s core collection is The Sweatshirt: Made in New York from unbelievably soft Japanese merino wool, it’s a sensorial dream — cozy and substantial but still lightweight and breathable. It also has the ideal oversized shape (and can be even more oversized by sizing up), while still being elegantly structured. Even paired with sweatpants and sneakers for a long-haul flight, it still makes me feel chic and put together; needless to say it’s my go-to airport top, but I wear it constantly at home as well.

You can tell it’s made to last, so its quality and versatility justify the price. Plus, the brand will take back any item in return for a percentage of the original value (based on condition) in store credit; it sells returned items and samples at a discount via its resale platform 4Worn. For anyone looking for thoughtfully designed, quality basics, or just a more conscious way of consuming fashion, it’s a brand to keep an eye on.
