2024 Season Review

A 2024 undrafted rookie out of Kansas, Bean signed with the Colts following last year’s NFL draft, and eventually spent his first season on the practice squad after initially being released during roster cutdowns.

During the preseason, Bean showcased his playmaking abilities both through the air and on the ground.

He was efficient as a passer, completing 15-of-19 pass attempts at an impressive 10.4 yards per throw with one touchdown and one interception. Out of 61 eligible quarterbacks this preseason, Bean ranked first in yards per pass attempt.

Bean also rushed for 54 yards (4.9 yards per rush) with two touchdowns and one fumble.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season

With the addition of Riley Leonard in the NFL draft, who joins Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, Bean again faces another uphill battle when it comes to making the Colts’ 53-man roster.

Not to say that he can’t outperform Leonard, but as the recent draft pick, Leonard has the advantage, and throughout offseason programs, he was clearly ahead of Bean on the depth chart.

The good news is that under Shane Steichen, the Colts have rostered three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster each year, which then leaves a practice squad spot open for Bean to further his development.

For what it’s worth, Bean is still listed on the Colts roster as a QB/WR, but all of his work seems to be coming at quarterback.
