Cardi B Wears Orange Margiela Tabi Boots at Spotify Beach in Cannes

Cardi B made a shimmering case for statement footwear at Spotify Beach during Cannes Lions on June 18, stepping out in fringed Maison Margiela Tabi boots. The performance doubled as a fashion moment and a teaser for her upcoming track, “Outside.”

The Grammy-winning rapper wore the house’s signature split-toe silhouette in a sunset orange hue, featuring dramatic orange-gold fringe draped from the ankle down the shaft. She paired the Maison Margiela boots with white fishnet tights and a striped mini dress in orange and white. The vertically striped piece featured a glossy finish and a sculpted, dip-neckline bodice with a white scoop detail.

Once on stage, Cardi added a wide-brimmed hat in the same tangerine hue as her boots, while her dancers mirrored the palette in complementary blood-orange and white ensembles. The shimmering detail caught the light differently on stage, turning sunburst gold mid-performance and accentuating the high-impact nature of the short boot. While it’s unclear which season the pair is from or if they’re custom, the styling suggests a vintage or bespoke take — a throughline in Cardi’s recent footwear choices.

The footwear moment follows Cardi’s now-viral Instagram PSA from earlier this month, calling out luxury fashion houses for what she described as a lack of “It” shoes this year. “We want good boots,” she said in the clip. “We want big, tall boots. We want big, long, heeled boots… there hasn’t been a boot that gags us.” Since then, the rapper has doubled down on archival footwear, most recently in Vivienne Westwood spring 2009 sandals in Miami and a pair of Courrèges’ hybrid wedge boots courtside at a Knicks game.

Maison Margiela’s Tabi line — inspired by Japanese split-toe socks and debuted in 1988 — has seen a resurgence in recent seasons, with recent co-signs from Kim Petras and Michael B. Jordan.

The performance was part of Spotify Beach, a multi-day takeover during the Cannes Lions festival that blends brand panels with after-dark sets from top artists. Cardi headlined Wednesday night’s lineup alongside Mark Ronson and Lola Young, drawing industry insiders to the Croisette for a high-energy show — and a first listen at “Outside,” the rapper’s upcoming single set to drop Friday.
