The Texas Longhorns are having quite an eventful 4th of July on the recruiting trail.
They were blindsided by the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country, Felix Ojo, who ended up committing to former Big 12 rival, Texas Tech, despite being viewed as a Texas lock throughout the process.
However, about an hour after missing on Ojo, who will reportedly make as much as $5.1 million in Lubbock, the Longhorns went out and landed four-star interior offensive lineman John Turntine III.
An addition that five-star Texas quarterback commit, Dia Bell, seemed to appreciate significantly, while also possibly throwing a jab at Ojo’s decision.
“The one we needed!!! Welcome home 💯 ,” wrote Bell.
Bell, who ranks as the No. 1 quarterback in ESPN’s recruiting rankings, headlines a 2026 Texas recruiting class that comes just one cycle after Steve Sarkisian and company put together the No. 1 class in the country.
While Bell will get much more of the hype, Turntine’s commitment adds to the pipeline of elite offensive linemen that the Longhorns have been attracting under Sarkisian. Offensive line coach Kyle Flood has been masterful in the recruiting and development of Texas’s offensive line and is one of the main reasons they are frequently in the mix for a title.
The Texas recruiting class now sits at 17 commits, and ranks as the No. 13 class by On3 and No. 11 class by 247Sports.
