Here’s the 2025 Herald News Players of the Year


FALL RIVER — At the end of the 2025 high school spring season, the Herald News put out polls to let readers have a say in the Players of the Year polls in their respective sports.

There were great battles as we breakdown the winners. Throughout the high school season, we conduct Players of the Week polls so don’t miss them. More importantly: VOTE.

Here are the Herald News spring winners from their respective sports:

Baseball

Kyle Sherman Jr., Somerset Berkley

The Raiders infielder/pitcher captured 13,516 total votes (50.06%) to win the award. Joseph Case’s Devyn Murphy placed second with 10,911 votes (40.41%). Responses27,000

Softball

Paisley Parisee, Diman

The Bengals catcher won her poll by gathering 8,524 votes (33.51%). Westport pitcher Mackenzy Ponte took second place with 4,669 votes (18.35%). Responses25,440

Lacrosse

Jacob Cross, Westport

The Wildcat star ran away with the poll, collecting 257 votes out of 316 total (81.33%). His twin brother Ben Cross took second with 10.76%. Responses316

Boys Tennis

Ian Foulds/Brayden DoRego, Somerset Berkley

The Raiders first doubles team swept their poll with 1,600 total votes (63.82%). Diman second singles player Andrew Librera took second place with 542 votes (21.62%). Responses2,507

Girls Tennis

Chloe Baker, Diman

The Bengals first doubles player won a close battle, gathering 16,574 total votes (53.12%). Diman’s second singles player Savannah Barcellos took second place with 12,485 (40.02%). Responses31,199

Boys Track

David Perry, Somerset Berkley

The Raiders athlete took first place with 5,601 total votes (55.64%). Atlantis Charter’s Shawn Kalunga placed second with 2,187 votes (21.73%). Responses10,066

Girls Track

Grace Flattery, Diman

Flattery won the final Player of the Year poll with 1,631 total votes (40.66%). Joseph Case’s Olivia Santos took second with 621 votes (15.48%). Responses4,011
