Lee Corso’s first head gear pick had Ohio State written all over it

If you know anything about college football, you know that longtime ESPN College GameDay Lee Corso has a tradition of donning headgear of the team he predicts to win the game of the week the popular pregame college football show airs on location from. That is even more salient since Corso announced he’ll step away from College GameDay during Week 1 (August 30) of this fall.

And if you are an Ohio State fan (we’re making educated guesses here), then you likely also know that Corso has a long, long history of putting the Brutus head atop his body when the show airs from Columbus for a big game — and there have been a slew of those.

However, maybe you didn’t know that Corso’s tradition of putting headgear on started with Brutus when he picked the Buckeyes to beat Penn State inside the grand ‘ole Horseshoe on October 5, 1996. If you haven’t seen that moment, or maybe just want to reminisce the first time this tradition started, then take a look back at when that moment was born.

Ohio State seems to always be front and center with many of the traditions of college football, and this is just another example. College football will miss Lee Corso, and there’s no doubt Buckeye Nation has a love affair with the old coach turned media personality because of this history.

Oh, and there is a very, very good chance that Corso’s last game on August 30 might involve Brutus again because that’s the week that Ohio State hosts Texas. Wouldn’t that be a come full circle type of affair?
