Warriors get great news on Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo made plenty of headlines early in the offseason due to swirling trade rumors. Those initial rumors would soon die down, but recent comments made by Antetokounmpo have picked them right back up.

Antetokounmpo has spent his entire 12-year career with Milwaukee. He has averaged 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists in his career, and has won two MVP’s, a Defensive Player of the Year award, a Finals MVP, and been named All-NBA nine times.

While on a livestream with YouTube personality iShowSpeed, Antetokounmpo was asked if he was going to remain in Milwaukee for a 13th season.

“Probably,” he said. “Probably, we’ll see.”

While it may not sound like much, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst indicates that the ‘we’ll see’ from Antetokounmpo could hold a much deeper meaning, pointing out that a few NBA teams may still be hanging on to hope about Antetokounmpo’s availability.

“I'm certainly not going to analyze something he said seaside in Greece but what I will say is the 'we'll see,' that is essentially what there's about five or six NBA teams banking on, the 'we'll see,’” Windhorst said on ESPN’s Get Up. “And I know it sounds trivial but for years Giannis was completely locked in. Him saying 'we'll see' backs up what Shams has been saying this entire summer, which is that he might be more open-minded than he was in the past. And I would say the same thing, 'Probably Milwaukee, but we'll see.' And now I can quote Giannis on that, thank you very much.”

While Windhorst did not reveal which teams are awaiting a status update on Antetokounmpo, one team that has been heavily linked to him has been the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are looking to squeeze out as much as they can while Stephen Curry is still performing at a high-level, as evidenced by the trade for Jimmy Butler at least season’s deadline.

A move for a player of Antetokounmpo’s stature — being one of the league’s top five players objectively — would catapult the Warriors into immediate contention, and provide Antetokounmpo with a legitimate shot to win another title.
