Miami Dolphins undrafted rookie cornerback BJ Adams could be a strong contender to make the initial 53-man roster.
A product of Central Florida, Adams boasts excellent size at 6’3 and started six games as a freshman. Over four collegiate seasons with the Knights, he made 29 starts and appeared in 48 total games.
During his time at UCF, Adams recorded 88 tackles, two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown in his senior year, and 13 passes defended. He displayed consistency with four pass breakups in each of his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.
Adams was also a versatile high school athlete, playing cornerback, safety, quarterback, and running back at Arabia Mountain High School in Lithonia, Ga.
His fall out of the 2025 NFL draft came as a relative surprise, with many scouting projections placing him in the fifth round. The primary knock on his résumé may have been a perceived lack of statistical ball production.
However, Adams brings an aggressive playing style. He’s physical at the line of scrimmage in press coverage, capable of disrupting receiver routes, and shows promise in man-to-man situations. During the draft process, an NFC scout commented, “I like the size and swagger, but I see him as a developmental cornerback. His technique needs a lot of work.”
The Dolphins have a history of undrafted free agent cornerbacks finding success, and Adams will compete against others who found their way to Miami via that route, including Storm Duck, Isaiah Johnson, and Ethan Bonner.
Even the veteran in the room, Kader Kohou, joined the team as an undrafted signee in 2022. Adams is part of a young, unproven group of defensive backs vying for roster spots, which also includes 2025 fifth-round pick Jason Marshall Jr. and 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith.
With Smith yet to show he can develop into a consistent starter or contributor, Adams has as good a chance as anyone in this group to emerge as a viable option in Miami’s secondary.
