You may have noticed an influx of silk or satin scarves lately, either worn as a hair accessory, on handbags or even tied around the wrist, hips, torso and beyond.
According to Google Trends, “head scarf” is currently being searched more than ever before, while searches for “scarf necklace” have more than quadrupled in 2025, reaching an all-time high last month. Popular brands among scarf shoppers include Hermès (trademarker of The Twilly’, Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Acne Studios.
Another brand well positioned for this growing trend is NYC-based Lost Pattern. Founded by Cata Cheng and Yong Wang, the brand uses ethical Chinese suppliers for its affordable ($85-$280) silk scarves. “Silk has deep roots in ancient Chinese culture, it carries a rich heritage that I feel deeply connected to,” says Wang.”To me, silk is China’s gift to the world, but it now belongs to everyone.” He, too, has noticed the resurgence, and suspects the cause.
“Silk scarves are trending because people are leaning into expressive and personal style more than ever,” says Wang. “It feels like there’s a renewed love for playfulness and individuality, which scarves deliver in a small, powerful piece since they can be worn so many different ways [and] you can get multiple looks from one special item.”
For shoppers seeking quality scarves, look for hand-rolled edges and “100% mulberry silk,” says Wang. Also think about the finish of the scarf you’re after. “Silk twill has a subtle texture and holds its shape well, making it great for structured looks,” he notes, while, “Silk satin is buttery smooth with a luminous sheen — it drapes beautifully and feels more romantic. Then there’s silk chiffon, which is sheer, airy and perfect for summer styling.”
