Rebecca Romijn stepped into a pair of graphic black Ferragamo sandals at Comic-Con 2025 on Saturday — a sharp, shape-forward nod to her Marvel return.
She wore Ferragamo’s Lyrai style in smooth calfskin, shaped with a soft almond toe and a wide split strap that threaded between the toes. The leather rose on a diagonal across the instep, leaving the foot partially exposed and anchoring the silhouette without extra straps. A 7 cm stiletto lifted the heel. The upper, angular and clean, cut a graphic line across an otherwise minimalist frame.

Romijn styled the sandals with a crimson one-sleeve dress and gold cuff. The angled hem kept the shoes visible, while the clean lines up top held the look in balance.
The reference to Mystique — the character Romijn has portrayed since 2000’s X-Men — was subtle but deliberate. The Lyrai’s tension and curve mirrored the shape-shifting symmetry of Mystique’s blue skin, known for its raised patterning and morphing contours. There was no overt styling trick, just a clean use of proportion to echo form. It’s the kind of low-key method dressing that’s increasingly shaping superhero press tours.

Romijn joins a wave of Marvel stars using footwear to layer meaning into styling. Julia Garner’s silver Jimmy Choos nodded to her Silver Surfer character earlier this month. Vanessa Kirby, meanwhile, has leaned hard into a tonal blue palette throughout the “Fantastic Four” press circuit, pairing sharp stilettos from Aquazzura and Louboutin with near-matching looks. Romijn’s version kept things pared back — all line and intention, without the costume cues.

The Lyrai sandal, introduced under Ferragamo creative director Maximilian Davis, has become a quiet favorite among stylists for its balance of edge and simplicity.
Romijn was at San Diego Comic-Con to promote “Avengers: Doomsday,: the upcoming Marvel crossover set for 2026. She confirmed Mystique will appear but said she’s “not sure” if filming is finished yet: “They haven’t finished writing,” she said during the convention. The film is expected to bridge legacy characters from the early 2000s films with the studio’s current multiverse storyline.
