Rodrygo has not asked to leave Real Madrid despite Tottenham interest

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has been teetering on the edge of a summer exit since Xabi Alonso was announced as a successor to club legend Carlo Ancelotti.

According to COPE, he hasn’t told the club that he wants to leave, but the rumours aren’t going away.

Rodrygo has plenty of admirers in the Premier League, but he’s still fully committed to the Spanish powerhouse – at least for now.

Madrid have strengthened their ranks this summer ahead of another La Liga title duel with Barcelona.

They’ve brought in Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, Franco Mastantuono from River Plate and Alvaro Fernandez from Benfica.

Those deals have maxed out the 25 slots Madrid have in their squad, so they cannot make any new signings until someone leaves.

That has naturally fuelled rumours around several players, and Rodrygo has repeatedly come up as one of the likeliest candidates to move.

Playing a bit-part role during the Club World Cup certainly didn’t help his prospects under Alonso. Rodrygo has never hidden his admiration for English football.

He recently admitted in an interview that Manchester City are the best team in the world and heaped praise on Pep Guardiola’s brand of football.

The Premier League has been touted as Rodrygo’s next destination, but Man City are not actively pursuing a deal for the 24-year-old.

Liverpool currently have their hands full in the pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and are preparing to smash the British record fee for the second time this summer.

Madrid haven’t received any formal offers for the Brazilian, and it’ll cost more than €100 million (£86.4m) to sign him.
