Warriors secure crucial Game 1 win vs. Rockets on road, 95-85

In front of a raucous crowd in Houston to open one of the most highly anticipated series on the playoff slate, Stephen Curry stole the show in Game 1 as the Golden State Warriors landed the first punch against the Rockets in Game 1 on Sunday evening.

Curry fueled Golden State’s offensive attack with 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field to go along with six boards, three assists and a steal. With Amen Thompson and the physical Houston defense surrounding Curry, the All-Star point guard buried a flurry of tough shots from beyond the arc, with five made triples.

Jimmy Butler added 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field with seven rebounds, six assists and five steals in 42 minutes.

After trailing by three points at the end of the first quarter, the Warriors used a dominant second frame to take control of the contest. The Warriors outscored the Rockets 29-13 in the second quarter.

The Warriors continued to build on their lead early in the third quarter, growing their lead to 23 points. However, a late run from the Rockets tightened the game down the final stretch. Houston was able to trim Golden State’s advantage down to three points.

Yet, clutch buckets from Curry, Butler, Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski helped the Warriors close out the Rockets on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

After securing a 1-0 lead on Sunday, the Warriors will get two days off to prepare for Wednesday’s Game 2 in Houston.
