Greg McElroy has USC football as No. 11 team in the country for 2025

The USC Trojans were not featured in the major preseason rankings of the best college football teams, but some analysts are still high on the Trojans. Former Alabama quarterback and current college football analyst Greg McElroy has the Trojans as the 11th best team in college football.

Greg McElroy’s list may have some questionable takes within his top 25 teams, but the one thing that will make USC fans happy is that the Trojans get the respect they deserve. Just on talent alone, the Trojans are a top-25 team in college football at the very least.

The Trojans have a defense that is continuing to get better with more talented defenders in this lineup. Another proven former NFL coach has joined this staff to develop that young talent into a special defense. We know that Lincoln Riley knows how to put together a prolific offense, and the expectation should be that he will with the talent he has. Even so, I still think this defense has the chance to be the better side of the ball for the Trojans this season.

With the Trojans being just one possession away from victory in almost all of their 6 losses last season, and then factoring this season’s improvement and an easier schedule into the equation, we should see the Trojans reach that ceiling of a top 11 team in college football instead of being a mid-tier team.

While critics may question Greg McElroy’s ball knowledge after his top 25 poll, his rankings may be the most realistic as they pertain to the USC Trojans and what they could be this season. Within all the outlandish projections placed on the Trojans before the first kickoff, it is reassuring that some people are taking notice of what Lincoln Riley and the Trojans are building this season.
