Ben Standig displays his two Mock Drafts, Monday and Commanders picks

What type of trade(s) might the Commanders be able to make during this week’s 2025 NFL draft?

It’s impossible to know what teams are thinking, especially regarding quarterbacks, given that this year’s class is significantly weaker than the 2024 class.

If you think you understand what is going to transpire, Ben Standig of The Athletic said Monday morning on Kevin Sheehan’s The Team 980 show, “I’m almost more confused than ever what the quarterback situation is going to look like.”

Fortunately, the Commanders are not worried about quarterbacks. They have Jayden Daniels as their starter and Marcus Mariota as the veteran backup. In addition, it appears Sam Hartman and Josh Johnson will battle for the third quarterback spot.

With only five selections in the 2025 NFL draft, Standig determined that he would produce two mock drafts: one where the Commanders make trades and another where they make their five selections.

In the first round, the Commanders traded their 29th pick to the Bears for Chicago’s 39th and 72nd choices.

In a second trade, Standig then had the Commanders trade that very same 72nd pick to the Chargers for picks 86, 125, and a 2026 fourth-round choice.

So, with the two trades completed, who did Standig have Commanders’ GM Adam Peters selecting?

Round 2, No. 39 (via Bears) — Nic Scourton, DE, Texas A&M

Round 2, No. 61 — Shavon Revel Jr., CB, East Carolina

Round 3, No. 86 (via Chargers) — Savion Williams, WR, TCU

Round 4, No. 125 (via Chargers) — Devin Neal, RB, Kansas

Round 4, No. 128 — Kain Medrano, LB, UCLA

Round 6, No. 205 — Eli Cox, IOL, Kentucky

Round 7, No. 245 — Jared Harrison-Hunte, DT, SMU

In the no-trade version, Standig’s mock draft concluded this way:

1 (29) – Donovan Ezeiruaku, DE, Boston College2 (61) – Femi Oladejo, DE, UCLA4 (128) – Jaylin Lane, WR, Virginia Tech6 (205) – Tahj Brooks, RB, Texas Tech7 (245) – Jaylin Smith, CB, USC
