Teddy Bridgewater left his mark in the record books as a rookie

For a rookie quarterback to come in and make an impact, it is not the easiest thing in the world. In any sport, one could argue that no one has a harder job than being a rookie quarterback. You go from a college to a professional version of a game you know growing up where the speed is different, the language changes, and it makes you question everything you knew.

Because of the seriousness of the job a rookie quarterback has, someone took a look at the best performances by them since 2000.

The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner went through every rookie season for quarterbacks and found the 25 best over that time period. The Vikings found Teddy Bridgewater in the 2014 NFL Draft, and while they only went 7-9 that season, and he was 14-12 in touchdowns to interceptions, he showed something.

Baumgardner writes, “Younger fans of today’s game need to know that Bridgewater was on his way to potential stardom before suffering a devastating and career-altering knee injury in 2016. Early in his rookie campaign, Bridgewater replaced Matt Cassel and played his best football down the stretch before taking the Vikings to the playoffs in his second season (and earning a Pro Bowl nod).”

Bridgewater was on the path to being the franchise quarterback the Vikings had been looking for before his knee injury, as he points out above. Mike Zimmer was not perfect in a lot of aspects either, but he seemed to work well with Bridgewater. One big “what could have been” for the Vikings, but it is a nice honor for the former Vikings signal caller.
