Historic feats are nothing new for Hany Mukhtar, and in Nashville SC’s game against Orlando City on Aug. 23, he achieved another.
Mukhtar recorded his 10th assist of the season in the third minute when he passed to Sam Surridge for the game’s opening goal. It’s Mukhtar’s fifth straight season with 10 or more assists, making him the fourth player in MLS history to accomplish that feat.
Mukhtar joins Preki (eight seasons), Carlos Valderrama (five) and Robert Warzycha (five) with five straight seasons of at least 10 assists.
Mukhtar, who was named an MLS All-Star this season for the fourth time in his career, also scored two goals in the first half to help Nashville (14-8-5, 47 points) race to a 4-0 halftime lead over Orlando (13-5-8, 47 points). The 30-year-old has started every MLS game this season and has 14 goals and 10 assists.
Mukhtar joined NSC in 2020 and has become the club’s all-time top scorer with 90 goals, 80 of them coming in MLS play. The German forward, who was named the league’s MVP in 2022, is also Nashville’s MLS leader in assists with 58.
Mukhtar and Surridge (20 goals, four assists) are the highest-scoring duo in MLS this season, ahead of San Diego FC’s Anders Dreyer and Hirving Lozano.
Surridge scored two goals against Orlando to take the lead in the Golden Boot race, ahead of Inter Miami star Lionel Messi, who has 19.
