Tonight, the 2025 Venice Film Festival celebrated the premiere of Paolo Sorrentinoâs new film, La Grazia, and Oscar-winning actor Cate Blanchett was among the many stars who made an appearance on the red carpet. The star looked the part of a glamorous A-lister in her sleek, black floor-length Armani PrivĂ© gown, complete with a plunging bejeweled neckline. (As my colleague Hannah Jackson put it, who needs a statement necklace when you have a statement neckline?) And if you think the timeless frock looks familiar, thatâs because it is: Blanchett first wore the striking design back in 2022, at the SAG Awards.
This isnât the first time Blanchett has recycled a red carpet look, of course. Over the years, Blanchett and her stylist Elizaberth Stewart have become big proponents of rewearing old outfits on the step and repeatâmaking the case for a more sustainable approach to dressing for Hollywood events. Repurposing Oscars dresses for the BAFTAs and Golden Globes gowns for the Cannes, sheâs proved that a well-cut silhouette always stands the test of time.
And, really, when a design in your closet was custom-made for you and looks that good, why waste it on only one outing?
Now, we canât help but wonder: Will Blanchett be reviving archival looks throughout the week? Given her track record on the red carpet, all signs point to yesâand we cannot wait to see which throwback designer wears she pulls out next. (I, for one, vote for her 1999 Oscars dress by John Gallianoâit needs another moment in the sun!)
