The Best Knitwear Brands for Quality Cashmere and Wonderful Woolens

Fall and winter are brimming with an abundance of snug spoiling, but few pieces are quite as indulgent as an extremely soft sweater. The time and temperature has come to burrow ourselves into our cold weather must-haves, and the best knitwear brands are here to keep us warm, and stylish. Of course, sweaters are a year-round wardrobe staple to invest in (think of lightweight Mariner stripes or loosely woven jumpers), but fall and winter’s crisp chill brings forth the most luxuriously spun styles, from cashmere to mohair blends, and crewneck to turtleneck silhouettes.

But, when fall and winter roll around, you can spot multiple J.Crew sweaters in the Vogue offices—often the same style; they’re comfortable, and for the quality (these pieces last!), the price per wear can’t be beat.

Helmed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, The Row is synonymous with luxuriously spun knitwear. Although Toteme is known for more than just sweaters (think of their scarf-neck coat, shearling jackets, and T-lock clutches), a knitwear list just wouldn’t be the same without mention. The label’s knitwear is constantly selling out thanks to effortless Swedish sensibilities, emphasis on materiality and shape. You’ll find the cult-favorite signature striped turtleneck, alpaca scarf sweaters, and everyday, pared-back knits.

Made in Italy, Casasola uses sustainably sourced and fully biodegradable materials to produce thoughtful, functional, and luxe knitwear everyone can enjoy. Founder Barbara Casasola likes to focus on the essentials. Think of neutral-colored turtlenecks, crew, and V-necks that can be worn daily.

While plenty cozy, The Elder Statesman’s knitwear assortment is a far cry from neutral. Instead, the Los Angeles-based luxury label, founded in 2007 by Greg Chait, offers a more playful California-surf aesthetic with signatures like ultra-saturated tones and quirky motifs, all in sumptuous cashmere.

Linnea Lund is one of our favorite places to find holiday gifts for loved ones—their offerings span women, men, babies, and kids. Each piece, from knits to gloves and hats, are made the old-fashioned way on manual knitting machines, with a foot pedal. We’re particularly fond of the Fair Isle sweaters crafted in unique color combinations, like baby blue and camel, or or pale grey and butter yellow.

The sibling-founded brand by Nicolò and Carlotta Oddi has amassed a cult following thanks to their textural fabrics, ornate prints, and intricate handicraft. Since launch, they have expanded its offerings to include knitted skirts, bralettes, shorts, and pullovers. Naturally, though, we can’t help but champion the piece that started it all—sweaters.
