Brooklyn Nets forward Ziaire Williams came into this offseason following a 2024-25 NBA season that essentially amounted to him proving that he belonged in the league following his time with the Memphis Grizzlies. This summer presented some unknown for the former Stanford Cardinal after his one season in Brooklyn, but he made it clear this offseason that he wanted to return to the Nets.
Spotrac’s Keith Smith reported on Wednesday that Williams waived his implicit no-trade clause in his new two-year contract that he signed with the Nets this summer. According to Smith, Williams was eligible for a no-trade clause because the contract that he signed with Brooklyn includes a team option in the second year, potentially indicating that Williams is willing to trust the franchise to operate in good faith moving forward.
When the Nets declined to extend Williams’ $8.25 million qualifying offer (QO) to him to begin the offseason, there was a chance that the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft could have left to join another team willing to pay him what he wants. However, it was reported towards the end of June that Williams had re-signed with Brooklyn to a two-year, $12 million deal to end his brief free-agency.
When the Nets announced on Monday that they had officially re-signed Williams to a multi-year contract, the franchise did not provide the details of the deal, as per team policy. However, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported later in the day that Williams actually signed for two years (with the second year being a team option) and $12.5 million, implying that Brooklyn gave Williams an extra $500,000 for being patient with the organization while it figures out how to spend its cap space.
Williams, 23, is coming off his best season in the league in his four-year career since entering the NBA. Williams played 63 games for the Nets and averaged 10.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 41.2% from the field and 34.1% from three-point land under first-year head coach Jordi Fernandez.
