What Houston Christian coach Jason Bachtel said after loss to Nebraska

The Nebraska Cornhuskers improved to 3-0 after defeating Houston Christian 59-7 on Saturday. The victory was Nebraska’s ninth consecutive win against a nonconference opponent and the second consecutive 3-0 start to a season. Houston Christian falls to 1-2 on the season.

They return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they host Northern Colorado. The Huskers outgained the Huskies 554 yards to 160 yards. Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola led the passing attack, finishing the game 15-of-21 for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Kwinten Ives led the ground game with 85 yards off 12 carries with a touchdown. Dane Key led all receivers with four catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Jake Weir was the leading passer for HCU, finishing 11-of-18 for 67 yards. Xai’Shaun Edwards had 82 yards on 13 carries for Houston Christian with a long of 45 yards. Huskies head coach Jason Bachtel met with the media following the loss and believes that Nebraska is a top-25 team and that the polls will reflect that in the near future.

“Anytime you get to play in front of 86,292. That’s the first time some of our kids have even seen a stadium this big. So to go out and hear the roar of the crowd, everybody’s adrenaline was flowing. Heard nothing but positive things, even after a loss. It’s a great experience to build on. I’ve been looking at this game since I took over as head coach. When you pair it together, and you see it’s Matt Rhule’s third year. He’s the third-year magic guy, then you fear what’s going to happen. I’m not sure why they’re not a top 25 team; they will be soon. They got a good football team over there.”

Nebraska opens Big Ten play on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the Huskers welcome the Michigan Wolverines to Memorial Stadium. The Wolverines are 2-1 and coming off a 63-3 victory over Central Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on CBS.
