Yankees manager makes shocking Anthony Volpe decision

After being an asset for the New York Yankees in his first two major league seasons, shortstop Anthony Volpe has now become more of a liability for the team in 2025, holding only a .206 batting average through 141 games in the season. 

Despite his struggles, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has continued to pencil in Volpe's name in the shortstop spot throughout the season. 

But that could change soon. 

"We'll Do What's Best Every Day"

Recently, the Yankees announced that Volpe had been playing through injury in his shoulder, which may explain his lackluster performance, and for that hasn't played in nearly a week, with Jose Caballero taking his place. 

Boone expected Volpe to be available for Sunday's contest, but when Volpe never saw the field yesterday, people got curious, and the Yankee skipper finally broke his silence in a short and simple explanation. 

"We'll do what's best every day," Boone said, per the New York Post's Dan Martin.

Since filling Volpe's role, Caballero has batted .333 and has shown his presence on the defensive side, further putting Volpe's starting job at risk of being his, especially this close to the postseason. 

And if Caballero continues to contribute to the Bronx Bombers' recent success, there could soon be no need for Volpe on the team's postseason roster. 

After all, we all remember the blunder from Volpe that cost the Yankees the World Series last year against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
