Texas A&M baseball is just a few weeks away from fall play, where they will host Sam Houston and TCU at Blue Bell Park. There is minimal buzz surrounding the team this season, and head coach Michael Earley will begin 2026 under considerable pressure.
Although the Aggies endured a disappointing 2025 campaign and lost significant talent to the MLB, they still boast a solid roster that features several impactful transfers.
The two major issues that plagued A&M last season were defensive errors and a lack of clutch hitting. Toward the end of the season, they showed marked improvement in both areas, but it was too late to salvage a postseason berth. In an effort to address these weaknesses, Earley hired DBU assistant coach and former Aggie Cliff Pennington to oversee infield defense. He also turned to the transfer portal to acquire a few proven hitters.
One of those transfers is shortstop Chris Hacopian, who had an outstanding summer season. However, he will miss fall ball due to a fracture in his right hand, which will prevent him from hitting. Coach Earley confirmed that Hacopian will not require surgery but will need approximately four weeks before they can reassess his recovery and determine his activity level.
“It’s not anything that needs surgery. Just something he needs 4 weeks to heal.”
The silver lining is that avoiding surgery could allow for a quicker return, but Aggie fans will have to wait until the start of the regular season to see him suit up in Maroon & White.
