After a summer of serving every which way to style her beloved selection of ballet flats, and co-signing a new season of it-bags, Katie Holmes has backed the return of the barn jacket trend for fall.
Holmes stepped out for an evening in Hudson Valley at the Blue Hill at Stone Barns Restaurant and farm this week, a night celebrating the launch of Barbour and Tuckernuck’s new collaboration. The actor and director wore a jacket from the collection, providing a twist on the classic, heritage-inspired piece of outerwear with her own styling. While the original look is primed for brisk British country walks, Holmes wore the quilted navy iteration from the Barbour x Tuckernuck collab with a plain white t-shirt and denim overshirt, black tailored pants, and pointed brown leather boots with a kitten heel. Easily, Holmes makes the statement piece a part of her laidback, downton New York City style lexicon.

The jacket style first picked up steam again last year with Prada’s take on the spring summer 2024 runways; they looked worn in and loved, in shades of hunter green, navy, and gray-black. The Row, Toteme, and Loewe also reinterpreted the classic light coat. And since last fall, the barn jacket has elevated to become a sensible seasonal essential—as seen on Katie Holmes, as well as Gigi Hadid and Hailey Bieber. With its roots in British heritage, it’s no wonder that Kate Middleton is also a fan of the style. And with collegiate knits, argyle sweaters, and loafers also back with a vengeance for cooler temperatures, the cool, effortless styling formula is already there for you.
Once again, the barn jacket is the autumnal outerwear style to covet, and Kate Holmes is all in.
