The Green Bay Packers threw away a chance to be 3-0 to start the 2025 season with a chaotic collapse in Cleveland that culminated in a 13-10 defeat to the Browns on Sunday at Huntington Bank Stadium. A couple of explosive runs, a completely avoidable turnover and a stunning sequence of field goals during the final minute turned what should have been a hard-fought win in Cleveland into a shocking defeat to a team that had lost eight straight regular season games coming in.
Here’s the good, the bad and the ugly coming out of the Packers’ loss to the Browns:
The Good
The Packers defense for 56 minutes: The Browns didn’t score until deep into the fourth quarter. After seven possessions, the Browns had six punts and an interception and just one drive gaining at least 35 yards. Overall, the Packers produced 10 quarterback hits, allowed 125 net passing yards and were hardly responsible for seven of the Browns’ 13 points. For the third straight week, this was a winning effort from Jeff Hafley’s defense.
The Bad
The Packers offense: Jordan Love struggled under pressure and took five sacks, Josh Jacobs rushed 16 times for 30 yards and the Packers finished the contest averaging 3.8 yards per play and scoring only 10 points. Matt LaFleur’s offense got whooped at the line of scrimmage, limiting the ability to attack down the field or find explosive plays. While there were 10 converted third downs, the Packers still only managed two scoring drives on 10 possessions, and Love’s late interception was a game-turning play. The offense committed seven penalties, including five procedural or pre-snap penalties. Jordan Morgan committed three of the seven penalties. Tough to play consistently on offense when you lose the line of scrimmage and consistently back yourself up with avoidable penalties.
The Ugly
The mounting injuries: Facing the best defensive player in football and one of the best defensive lines in the NFL, the Packers lost their starting right tackle after one play and lost their starting left guard after one half, crippling the pass protection for Jordan Love. Zach Tom reinjured his oblique while absorbing a Myles Garrett bull rush on the opening snap, and Aaron Banks injured his groin right before the half. On defense, Javon Bullard was evaluated for a concussion after a nasty collision, and Devonte Wyatt exited with a knee injury. And those are just the injuries we know about as of Sunday. It could be a long, important injury list for Matt LaFleur to navigate in Week 4.
