While the “Watermelon Sugar” singer wore all black and ran under the pseudonym Sted Sarandos to maintain his anonymity, his shoe choice made him stand out among the large crowd of 55,000 runners. Styles was spotted by fans on the sidelines during the race, wearing a pair of Nike Alphafly 3 Road Racing Shoes, in the Bright Crimson/Lime Blast/Mint Foam/Cave Purple colorway.

The running shoes, which retail for $295 and are available in five other colorways, were created for marathon runs. The Alphafly 3 features three innovative technologies, including a double dose of Air Zoom, a full-length carbon fiber plate, and a heel-to-toe ZoomX foam midsole.

The Alphafly 3’s carbon fiber plate is slightly wider, providing increased stability, a fully connected ZoomX foam midsole helps with smoother transitions, and the Atomknit upper that’s designed for improved multidirectional containment and breathability.

The sneakers helped the former One Direction member attain the coveted sub-three-hour marathon mark that is the goal for many marathon runners, completing the race in two hours, 59 minutes, and 13 seconds. The Der Tagesspiegel Newspaper in Germany was the first to report on Styles’ participation in the race, while the marathon organizers confirmed the news to The Associated Press.
