Marques'Almeida Shifts to a 'Softer' and 'Lighter' Vision for Spring 2026


Moving away from the weighty leather, denim and print-heavy textiles of their last few collections, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida — the design duo behind Marques’Almeida — showed a Spring 2026 collection rooted in “softness and lightness,” embracing a floatier feeling in “what feels like a potentially volatile moment in time,” according to the show notes.

In a fittingly air-y venue — an open space with floor-to-ceiling windows on the 59th floor of a London skyscraper — transparent silk floor-length dresses in solid earth tones flew down the runway, with the leftover cloth gliding behind each model as they walked. “We just wanted to make it a different kind of emotion than we tend to use,” Almeida told Fashionista backstage.

Thin layers of fabric acted as shawls and scarves to create a windblown effect throughout the presentation. The duo avoided complicated patterns; instead, a simple, singular watercolor image of an in-bloom flower feature across a handful of pieces. These delicate paintings are symbols of “effortless defiance,” as explained in the show notes. “It leads to the full, unapologetic scale, blooming off hope and light.”

About halfway through the show, the collection reverted slightly back into the “MA DNA,” as Marques put it. Acid-washed denim in the form of peplum-adorned corsets, bustiers and bubble-hem mini dresses offered a contrasting, more structured take on the lightweight theme. “That’s turf ground, that’s our boyfriend jean or baggy jumpers. None of the other stuff makes sense without that on the side,” said Marques. “It has to have that kind of grungy attitude, and then it grounds everything and allows us to explore completely new mediums.”

The show finished with a happy medium between hard and soft materials. Two flowy gowns made from satin-y organza in sunny yellow and baby pink hues closed the runway and left guests with an overall brighter vision for the London-based label.
