Lions’ OC John Morton is not shy about sharing his confidence in the running game: “I don’t think they’ve seen a run game like ours yet.”

The Week 4 matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions will be strength vs. strength.

Cleveland takes its No. 1 ranked defense on the road to Detroit for a date with the No. 3 offense in the league and No. 4 rushing attack. For anyone who loves smash mouth football, this game should provide a suitable fix. But there is at least one person who doesn’t sound too worried about the idea of facing the No. 1 defense in the league that is barely allowing 57 yards per game on the ground.

Lions’ first year offensive coordinator John Morton isn’t shy about bragging on his offense even leading up to facing a vaunted defensive front led by All-Pro Myles Garrett.

“Well, I think this. I’m going back to us the last few weeks — our front right now, we’re moving guys,” Morton said Thursday about the offensive line. “I don’t think they’ve seen a run game like ours yet. We have patience, we stick with it. I think that’s the biggest thing. Let’s keep doing what we’ve been doing.

“We gotta do that so we can stay manageable. We have to stay manageable on third down and third down and 2-to-6. We’ve got to be in that area. First and second down’s gonna be crucial.”

In Week 3, the Lions’ two headed backfield monster of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs carved the Baltimore Ravens’ defense up, rushing for a combined 218 yards a four touchdown runs. Morton isn’t wrong when he says the Browns haven’t faced a running game like Detroit’s. Two weeks ago against Chicago, Montgomery and Gibbs rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

The Browns’ defense is stout, especially against the run. In a tough loss to the Ravens in Week 2, the Browns held Derrick Henry to 23 yards rushing and Lamar Jackson to 13. In last week’s win over Green Bay, the Browns held the Packers offense to 10 points and allowed Josh Jacobs just 30 yards on the ground.

“Our guys, they’re gonna be ready. We’re gonna be ready for anything,” Morton expressed. “I don’t care who it is. The most important thing is us taking care of what we need to do, technique-wise, the details. When we do that, we play pretty good, as you saw last week. If we take care of ourself and stop 95 [Myles Garrett], or at least control him… Can’t let him wreck this game. Cannot.”

This game between Cleveland and Detroit is one of the big early afternoon matchups of Week 4, scheduled for 1:00 pm EST on FOX, from Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
