Chelsea didn’t sign a Nicolas Jackson replacement for one reason

Chelsea considered signing a replacement for Nicolas Jackson but felt there wasn’t a standout candidate according to The Athletic.

Jackson eventually completed his move to Bayern Munich on deadline day, which contains an obligation to buy based on making a certain number of appearances.

The 24-year-old decided to seek a new challenge in Germany after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Why Chelsea didn’t sign a replacement for Nicolas Jackson

Pedro has hit the ground running, but Delap suffered a hamstring injury against Fulham at the end of August and he’s not expected to return until November.

Delap’s absence has left the Blues short at number nine, and they did make enquiries for Conrad Harder who eventually joined RB Leipzig.

Chelsea opted against replacing Jackson in the summer.

Chelsea recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland to provide cover, but the youngster hasn’t played a single minute since returning to Stamford Bridge.

Tyrique George has been preferred at centre forward despite the fact he’s not a striker, and he was on the verge of joining Fulham on deadline day for £22m.

Supporters were disappointed a replacement for Jackson wasn’t signed, and The Athletic have reported Chelsea did give it consideration in the last 48 hours of the window.

The report adds the Blues opted against it as they felt at that late stage there weren’t any standout candidates available.

Emanuel Emegha to join Chelsea in 2026

Chelsea may not have got a replacement for Jackson in the summer, although that now seems to be sorted after the Blues confirmed the signing of Emanuel Emegha on a pre contract last month.

Emegha is set to join from Strasbourg in the summer of 2026 and has penned a seven year contract at Stamford Bridge.

There are reports claiming Chelsea could bring Emegha to the club in the January, and the 22-year-old scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 last season, and will give Enzo Maresca another interesting profile in attack.
