The Age of Miguel Castro Freitas' Mugler Begins


Taking the reins at a major fashion house isn’t an easy feat for any designer — regardless of experience level. Proposing new ideas that are simultaneously cohesive with the established brand identity, commercially viable and culturally relevant is a challenging task to undertake. However, Miguel Castro Freitas’ Mugler Spring 2026 debut, presented on Thursday during Paris Fashion Week, demonstrated that he was ready to rise to the occasion. 

Titled “Stardust Aphrodite,” the collection offers a balance of old and new: Freitas honors the House’s beloved body-sculpted silhouettes, sensual feminine shapes and penchant for theatrics. But he reimagines those codes by taking a more refined route (at least, by Mugler standards), sprinkling a dose of realism and commerciality among the lineup. Call it a new dawn or a recession indicator, but Freitas’ debut proved that even Mugler’s audacious creativity can live beyond its own fantasy and into the real world.
