New York Giants stun Eagles, 34-17, behind rookies in prime-time

The New York Giants were embarrassed in a Week 5 matchup with the New Orleans Saints, just one week removed from knocking off the then-undefeated Los Angeles Chargers. As a result, they entered a Thursday Night Game against the Philadelphia Eagles as 7.5-point underdogs.

But these Giants… They’re an enigma.

The Giants didn’t just hang in against their long-time rivals; they blew the doors off them. After exchanging leads in the first half, Big Blue surged late in the second quarter and never looked back. They played complementary football, making big plays on both offense and defense, while putting their foot on the gas when victory was within reach.

With the win, the Giants improve to 2-4 on the season and will take on the Denver Broncos in Week 7.

Final Score: Giants 34, Eagles 17

Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Final
Giants 13 7 7 7 34
Eagles 10 7 0 0 17

Keys to the game

  • The Giants converted on 11 of their 16 third-down attempts, while limiting the Eagles to just one of nine. It was a complete role reversal for New York.
  • A week removed from committing five turnovers on consecutive series, the Giants recorded two takeaways and didn’t give the ball away. +2.
  • The Giants’ defense, which generated three sacks, did not allow a play over 18 yards, Saquon Barkley’s longest run of the day (11 carries for 40 yards outside of that).

It was over when…

Giants safety Dane Belton punched the ball out of Eagles running back AJ Dillon’s hands with 6:50 remaining in the game. Cornerback Dru Phillips jumped on it, and replay confirmed the fumble and the Giants’ recovery. Already leading 34-17, there was no looking back for Big Blue.

Players of the game

  • RB Cam Skattebo: Skatt was high-octane again on Thursday night, gaining 98 yards on 19 carries, 12 yards on two receptions, and scoring three touchdowns.
  • QB Jaxson Dart: Although he still needs to slide, Dart breathed life into the Giants’ offense alongside Skattebo, completing 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 195 yards and one touchdown, adding 58 yards and one additional touchdown on the ground.
  • LB Brian Burns: Burns wanted to become elite in 2025, and he’s well on his way to accomplishing that goal. He recorded seven tackles (three solo, two for a loss), two QB hits, and 2.0 sacks under the prime-time lights.

Injuries

Defensive lineman D.J. Davidson suffered a knee injury in the first half and was listed as questionable to return.

Center John Michael Schmitz was elbowed in the face (between his facemask) and suffered a laceration on his nose. He was later evaluated for a concussion and ruled out.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart was evaluated for a concussion, cleared, and returned after missing just two plays.

What’s next?

Giants head coach Brian Daboll will hold a Zoom call with the team’s beat writers on Friday afternoon, before a few players are also made available.

The Giants will return to practice on Wednesday ahead of a Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, October 19, at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. Kickoff is 4:05 p.m. EDT.
