Packers Wire staff predictions: Week 6 vs. Bengals

The Green Bay Packers (2-1-1) will host the Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) on Sunday at Lambeau Field. The Packers are coming out of the bye week after blowing winnable games in Cleveland and Dallas, while the Bengals have lost three straight games since losing Joe Burrow to an injury. Which team will get back on track on Sunday in Green Bay?

Here’s how the staff at Packers Wire believes the Week 6 showdown with the Bengals will go down:

Zach Kruse: Packers 31, Bengals 13 (2-1-1)

The Bengals have game-changing talents in Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson, but football is the ultimate team sport and three elite players don’t change much if the supporting pieces aren’t working. Considering all the factors, this is a game the Packers should win comfortably at home. Matt LaFleur’s offense has the better quarterback and is more explosive on offense, while Jeff Hafley’s defense is an order of magnitude better than the visitor and has an enormous advantage over the opponent’s offensive line. No more excuses. The Packers are at home, mostly healthy and coming out of the bye, while the Bengals have lost three straight and just traded for a 40-year-old quarterback on Tuesday of a game week. Every meaningful metric says Packers big. Now, an untrustworthy team that really should be 4-0 must go out and prove it.

Brandon Carwile: Packers 26, Bengals 20 (2-1-1)

The oddsmakers think this is a get-right game for Green Bay. Depending on where you look, they’re favored by 13.5 to 14.5 points. However, I’m expecting a close game. The Packers have a tendency to be sluggish coming off a bye, with a 4-5 post-bye record under Matt LaFleur. I don’t think the offense will have many issues moving the ball against Cincinnati’s 30th-ranked defense, but I think Joe Flacco will be a noticeable upgrade from Jake Browning and keep them in the game. Also, have doubts about Green Bay’s ability to contain Ja’Marr Chase after surrendering 134 yards and two touchdowns to George Pickens in Week 4. That said, I don’t think anyone would argue the Packers are the better team and should come out on this one 3-1-1.

Mark Oldacres: Packers 35, Bengals 14 (2-1-1)

The Browns may have beaten the Packers in Week 3 with Joe Flacco at the helm, but it was not because of the veteran quarterback, who will make his Bengals debut on Sunday. Cincinnati does not have the same ingredients on offense to put up points like Dallas did before the bye, or on defense to hold Green Bay down like Cleveland did. The Packers should take care of business in this one and get to 3-1-1 on the season.

Brennen Rupp: Packers 34, Bengals 9 (2-1-1)
