Kaizer Chiefs have received a major boost with the availability of three players ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash with AS Simba of DR Congo.

The Soweto giants will travel to Lubumbashi for the first leg of their second preliminary round outing on Saturday, 18 October.

This will be Chiefs’ first trip to DR Congo since visiting the Central African nation in 2014 when they faced AS Vita in the CAF Champions League preliminary stages.

Meanwhile, the return leg is scheduled for Sunday, 26 October at Dobsonville Stadium, with FNB not available for use after American rapper Travis Scott hosted a show at the venue this past weekend.

Chiefs will be boosted by the return of Luke Baartman and Mfundo Vilakazi from national duty in the U20 FIFA World Cup with Amajita in Chile.

On the other hand, Asanele Velebayi is also available for selection after he, along with Baartman, were cleared by the PSL DRC to feature for the club.

“Following a two-week international break, Chiefs are expected to welcome back several players recovered from injury. Additionally, Mfundo Vilakazi and Luke Baartman return from duty at the U20 World Cup in Chile. Baartman and Asanele Velebayi have also been cleared to play after finalization of their appealed cases, adding depth to the squad for the upcoming matches,” read the club statement.

It remains to be seen whether Chiefs can book a spot in the group stages as they eye continental glory for the first time since 2001.
