Sydney Sweeney Gets Romantic in McQueen Dress at London Film Festival

Sydney Sweeney hit the red carpet in a custom gown by McQueen for the London Film Festival premiere of her film “Christy” on Friday.

The two-time Emmy Award-nominated actress‘ look was the ideal nod to British luxury fashion, featuring ornate elements evoking details of Victorian era styling. Sweeney’s gown consisted of a corseted dress in pink silk satin and heritage lace with glass bead and crystal embroidery.

A bolero in pink silk satin with organza oyster ruffles and banshee hair embroidery was added for further fabric juxtaposition. Sweeney also wore skull sandals in pink leather. As for accessories, Sweeney opted for jewelry pieces by designer Irene Neuwirth.

When it came to her glam, Sweeney’s team opted for a serene visage. Her makeup, by artist Melissa Hernandez, featured such elements as bold brows and lightly lined eyes with a muted pink lip to complement her dress. Sweeney’s blond hair was styled by Glen Oropez with a middle part and worn down with large, soft barrel curls at the ends. Her nails were done by Lucy Tucker. Sweeney’s look was curated by stylist Molly Dickson, who also works with Sadie Sink and Ariana Greenblat, among others.

Over the course of the last few years, McQueen has gone through a rebrand — shortening its brand name to the late, eponymous designer Alexander McQueen’s last name and bringing on new talent like Seán McGirr, an Irish designer who took over the role of the British luxury fashion house’s creative director in 2023 following Sarah Burtuon’s departure.

McGirr’s penchant for Victorian references was not only featured in this recent custom design worn by Sweeney. McQueen’s fall 2025 campaign, which debuted in August, also made reference to a Victorian gothic sensibility, featuring models in black or white lace, pointy boots and hair blowing in the wind.

“Christy,” which follows the story of female boxing champion Christy Martin, played by Sweeney, is one of several high-profile films featured at the 2025 edition of the BFI London Film Festival, which kicked off on Oct. 8 and concluded on Sunday. Films vying for awards consideration screened and debuted at the festival, which marks its 69th anniversary with the 2025 iteration.
