Watch what Shedeur Sanders brings to Cleveland for yourself

The Cleveland Browns traded up to pick 144 overall in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

One of the wildest slides in recent NFL draft history is over, with the Browns taking their second quarterback in this class. Sanders was unanimously considered a first or second round talent because he combined accuracy and decision-making. He showed the ability to perform under pressure behind an underwhelming offensive line and had little issue completing throws on the run.

The biggest downside to Sanders is his lack of a defining trait. He isn’t an incredible athlete, and his arm talent is average, leading to questions about what his ceiling could look like. While he showed the ability to make plays under pressure, he also often took too many sacks when there was a chance to salvage the play.

Sanders completed 74 percent of his passes in 2024 for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. PFF graded him as the third-best quarterback in 2024 among those with at least 20 percent of 602 dropbacks.

As it stands, the Browns have Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and now Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in the quarterback room along with an injured Deshaun Watson. It seems like a move could be made before the season starts, but the Browns have completely overhauled the room after a rough 2024 season.

With the potential dead cap hit coming in 2026 if the team releases Watson, Cleveland will need cost-effective options to offset the damage. With Sanders and Gabriel, they will have at least two quarterbacks on rookie deals for the 2026 season.
