The Houston Rockets’ 131-116 blowout win in Game 5 did not come without controversy.
One of the biggest talking points coming out of the game involves Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry and his injured right thumb. Rockets veteran Dillon Brooks has been accused of intentionally targeting Curry’s injured hand, which led to some significant backlash toward the Houston forward.
Things heated up even more after Brooks spoke out about the incident after the game. While he did not confess to intentionally attempting to injure Curry, the controversial Rockets player admitted to wanting to “attack” an opponent’s injury “every single time” if he had the opportunity to do so.
Dillon Brooks on whether he’s trying to get at Steph’s thumb:
“If I had an injured ankle, I would attack that ankle every single time. So, whatever they’re saying on the broadcast, they can keep saying it” pic.twitter.com/j3SwixMdDQ— Oh No He Didn’t (@ohnohedidnt24) May 1, 2025
More than a few fans on social media were not at all pleased by Brooks’ comments here. So much so that they are now calling on the NBA to suspend the former All-Defensive forward for both his actions and his statement.
“Adam silver needa suspend Dillon brooks for admitting to targeting curry’s injured thumb. Clear hatred towards the warriors. Amen Thompson clearly injured jimmy butler and now brooks admitted to going after curry,” a comment on X read.
“suspend brooks,” said another.
“The fact the announcers are even pointing out Dillon Brooks dirty play going after Curry’s injured thumb. Suspension worthy and (expletive) sportsmanship. Let Draymond go after somebody injury tho and he’s a villain,” posted a user.
“@NBA needs to investigate Brooks and all this (expletive) he’s doing! Trying to intentionally hurt players needs a suspension! It’s obvious what he’s doing!” commented a fan.
“Suspend Udoka, Brooks, Thompson. These dirtbags have taken this crap to a new low,” demanded another.
“kerr is right suspend dillon brooks,” a reaction read, referencing Warriors head coach Steve Kerr’s demand for a rule change amid the issue at hand.
As of writing, the NBA has not issued a statement on this issue, and it does not seem like Brooks is going to get punished here.
Whatever the case might be, this storyline adds yet another layer of controversy to this already compelling first-round NBA playoffs matchup.
Game 6 in the Bay Area is on Friday, with the Warriors still holding on to a 3-2 series lead.
