Torino coach Paolo Vanoli collapsed on the touchline during a Serie A game against Venezia, but did not lose consciousness, and his assistant Godinho provided positive updates after early exams.

Torino coach Vanoli worryingly collapsed on the touchline in the second half of a home game against Venezia, just a few seconds after the Granata were awarded a penalty kick.

Replays showed Vanoli approaching Torino defender Guillermo Maripan to give him tactical instructions, but the Italian tactician fainted when he was about to return to the bench and was unable to get back on his feet for a few seconds.

Luckily, Vanoli remained conscious and received immediate medical attention from the Torino doctors and medics inside the stadium.

After getting back on his feet, he told fourth official Juan Luca Sacchi that he was ready to continue, so the referee was allowed to resume the play with Vlasic’s penalty kick, which the Croatian midfielder converted.

After the game, Vanoli underwent medical tests inside the stadium and didn’t talk to the media.

His assistant Godinho showed up instead and told DAZN that Vanoli was feeling good after undergoing early medical checks.

Repubblica explains that Vanoli’s collapse was probably due to a drop in blood pressure, probably due to stress.

Only a few minutes earlier, Venezia midfielder Kike Perez had been taken to hospital after suffering a head injury but the Venezia midfielder was also alert and conscious.

Vanoli’s coaching career

The Italian tactician, 52, is a former Venezia coach with whom he earned promotion in 2023-24.

Vanoli started his coaching career as an assistant manager, including working with Gian Piero Ventura for Italy and then Antonio Conte at Chelsea and Inter.

The breakaway on his own was at Spartak Moscow in December 2021, before taking over at Venezia in November 2022.

His contract with Torino expires in June 2026.
