Every year, the spring exhibition at the Costume Institute ushers in the year’s most glamorous event—the Met Gala. This year’s show is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which will explore 300 years of Black style in the Atlantic diaspora with the dandy at its center. It’s a subject sure to deliver an instantly legendary red carpet. If recent award shows have taught us anything it’s that guys are really out here dressin’, but further emphasizing the uniqueness of the 2025 Met Gala’s proceedings is the fact that this is the first Costume Institute exhibition since 2003’s “Bravehearts: Men in Skirts” to focus exclusively on menswear.
This year’s co-chairs: Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky, and honorary co-chair Lebron James, are known not only for being some of the best-dressed men on the planet, but also for their unwavering commitment to exploring their own personal style. “They’re all men who aren’t afraid to take risks with their self-presentation. They take advantage of classic forms, but they also remix them and break them down in really new ways,” said Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu curator in charge of the Costume Institute late last year. “I think Black men and Black designers are very much at the forefront of this new renaissance in menswear.”
The dress code this year is Tailored for You, which leaves much space for experimentation and personalization. So, what we’re saying is, everyone should be ready for one superfine good night.
