The meeting point between art and fashion languages sparks a new postgraduate training season at IED,
designed for those who want to explore the most uncharted contemporary areas of the fashion world — all
while studying in cities like Milan and Florence, home to some of the most prestigious fashion houses and
cultural institutions. Leading these new English-taught Master’s programs are prominent figures from the
international creative scene
, who bring their professional insight and vision into the classroom. True to the
mission of the Istituto Europeo di Design, an Italian-rooted network with 11 campuses in three countries, IED is
approaching its 60th year of shaping talent in the creative industries. Let’s discover these three immersive
learning experiences
for those ready to become key players on today’s cultural and stylistic scene.

Fashion Curation: Curating as an Art Form

Led by Dobrila Denegri, Serbian-born art historian and pioneering curator of fashion exhibitions in cultural
contexts, the new Master in Fashion Curation offered in IED Milan and Florence views fashion as a
narrative art form. Curation is one challenge after another. You are a mediator, the bridge between an
idea and the public, says Denegri, who coordinates a program that explores the fluid boundaries between
art and fashion
. Students will have the opportunity to work on exhibitions and installations with brands and institutions, crafting visual stories that merge historical and contemporary elements. “Fashion is an
incredibly powerful tool — like a megaphone that can reach so many people. It comes with great
responsibility,” she adds. Students will be guided by Kaat Debo too, director of the Antwerp Fashion Museum MoMu, as a special mentor.

Fashion Photography: Beyond the Lens

The way fashion is represented can elevate a brand or designer, evoking emotions that go far beyond the
product itself. With Rita Lino, Portuguese photographer and visual artist, the IED Master in Fashion
Photography
explores the expressive potential of photography as a medium. “A fashion photographer
blends an artistic vision with the commercial needs of a brand. It’s a collaborative job where no one plays
the king,” says Lino, who encourages future students to shoot constantly and stay close to what inspires
them personally — the key to developing their own unique visual language.

From moments and emotions to details, every frame can become part of a visual narrative that not only
captivates but also connects with consumers.

Fashion Trend Forecasting: Reading the Future

Alberto Caselli Manzini, strategist and expert in trend analysis, leads the IED Master in Fashion Trend
Forecasting
, which teaches students to decode present signals to predict future fashion trends. “Fashion
is a language that communicates without words. Understanding trends is essential to anticipate the
evolution of the industry,” explains Caselli Manzini. Throughout the program, students will learn to use
analytical tools and data visualization techniques to interpret consumer behavior and market dynamics.
They will be guided by a special mentor, too: Elizabeth Bowring, Head of Catwalks at WGSN.
