Rams were never a threat to take a QB

Prior to the 2025 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams knew they had their quarterback for next season after agreeing to a reworked deal with Matthew Stafford. They still don’t know who their long-term quarterback will be, but they didn’t feel the need to take a prospect in this year’s draft.

They passed on every quarterback in the 2025 draft and didn’t sign a single one after the draft ended, either, showing they’re in no rush to find Stafford’s successor. They were linked to a handful of prospects leading up to the draft, though, including Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart and even Tyler Shough.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported this week that despite their interest in a few prospects, the Rams were “never a major threat” to draft a quarterback.

The Rams have never drafted a first-round quarterback in the Sean McVay era. Some inside the league believe that could change in 2026, with Los Angeles armed with two first-rounders (including Atlanta’s pick) in what’s considered a deep quarterback class. Matthew Stafford seems to be on a year-to-year schedule. The Rams liked a handful of quarterbacks, including Tyler Shough and Kyle McCord, but were never a major threat to take one this year.

Not only did the Rams pass on this year’s crop of quarterbacks, but they added a 2026 first-round pick by trading down from No. 26 overall. That gives them ammo to either take a quarterback with one of their two picks or package them together and move up for a guy they covet.

Holding the Falcons’ first-rounder in 2026, the Rams have to hope Atlanta has a tough season and winds up in the top 10, increasing the value of the pick acquired by Los Angeles.
