While taking a stroll through Amsterdam’s 9 Streets, in the heart of the city’s canal district, you’ll stumble upon an unlikely retreat. Situated alongside a host of shops, cafes, galleries, and restaurants is The Beauty House— Pulitzer Amsterdam’s premier beauty and wellness offering.

Opened in May of last year, the space is inspired by the Dutch way of life. “The Beauty House is slow, simple, and stylish,” says spa manager Marjolein de Swart. “With wellness ever-expanding, we wanted to create a space for guests to experience beauty on their own terms—an experience that’s been carefully designed around their personal needs.”

To suit, its menu offers a range of bespoke treatments that offer a moment of respite from the hustle and bustle of the city center. To awaken the complexion, you might select a Radiance Facial, marked with a rose quartz stone massage that can enhance your glow ahead of a major event, or a cryotherapy facial suited for those more interested in sculpting and depuffing. No spa is complete without a massage—book its De-Stress treatment to relieve tension after a long-haul flight, or give cupping a try, which creates a sort of vacuum to increase blood circulation and reduce inflammation. Most notably, there are also a bevy of aesthetic treatments to choose from. For face, book a makeup session to leave you glowing for a night ahead. Hair, on the other hand, can be cut, colored, balyaged, and blow-dryed to your liking. Low on time? A spa manicure or pedicure may be more your speed—allowing on the opportunity to experience the space with minimal commitment.

To bring its stacked treatment menu to life, The Beauty House turned to a select few brand partners. 111SKIN, the beloved skin-regenerating brand founded by plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Yannis Alexandrides and his wife Eva Alexandrides, powers many of its facials. “Yannis and I were thrilled to launch our latest spa outpost, boasting a setting like no other in the stunning streets of Amsterdam–111SKIN certainly has a spectacular new home there, with dedicated therapists offering our treatment menu of targeted skin solutions,” Eva says; whereas hair styling and conditioning is led by Chāmpo. “We’re delighted to extend our current offering in Amsterdam by launching at the famed Pulitzer in their newly opened Beauty House, a stunning oasis of micro wellness and moments of joy for Amsterdam locals and visitors alike,” says Kuldeep Knox, founder of Chāmpo. “To enhance the experience further, we also offer ‘add-ons’ including quick-fire face workouts and cooling masks for even more visible results, and Keune products are available to buy in our retail shop for guests to take a slice of Dutch pride away with them,” de Swart says.

The idea was to deliver innovation and serenity to the buzzy Nine Streets neighborhood. “Our mission is simple: to make sure that every guest leaves us feeling more relaxed and beautiful than when they arrived, whether it’s hotel guests, city visitors, or locals,” she continues. To achieve such personalized service, which its adjoining 5-star hotel Pulitzer is known for, the space only has one treatment room that de Swart says helps guests to feel like they’re stepping back into their very own cosy canalside home, where they have up to two hours pre- and post-treatment. “We have capacity for just five treatments per day in the treatment room, but of course additional treatments for nails and hair take place in the open space.”

Led by Creative Director Jacu Strauss, the space blends the modernity and artistic lens that Amsterdam is known for—drawing on white tiles, contrasting materials, and pops of color to guide the eye and make one quickly feel at home in the space. “The vibrant red popping color that is visible in both the brand and design is reminiscent of the vintage Hollywood lipstick, a statement for confidence and glamour—AKA feeling beautiful inside and out,” says de Swart. “With a design that favors views of Pulitzer’s gardens and the nine-streets neighbourhood on opposing ends, there’s no better spot to sip a glass of champagne and unwind after a day of exploring.” Before renovations were finished, the three-story wellness spot was once an herbs and grocery store. “The owner of the property at the time was Louis Beisenherz, whose daughter was the first Dutch woman to compete in the 1920 Olympic Games,” she adds, lending an incredible parallel to the use of the space today. You come to The Beauty House to awaken your best self—leaving after a few minutes or a few hours feeling more relaxed, more luminous, or more capable to live the life you’ve dreamed of.
