How Wisconsin football’s 2026 recruiting class is shaping up

MADISON – The Wisconsin football team’s past two recruiting classes have been two of their best in the past decade.

With the exception of the 2021 class that included Braelon Allen and Hunter Wohler, no recruiting class ranked better than UW’s 2024 and ’25 classes. The 2024 class ranked 23rd by 247sports and 19th by Rivals. The ’25 class ranked 27th by 247sports and 23rd by Rivals.

As of May 14, the 2026 class ranks 38th by 247sports, 42nd by On3 and 44th by Rivals.

Here is a look at how the players who have committed so far.

Committed: May 12.

Hometown: Cincinnati.

High school: St. Xavier.

Height: 6-2.

Weight: 210 pounds.

Ratings: On3, Rivals and 247sports list him as a three-star prospect.

The lowdown: Reeder made 72 tackles last season that included 42 solos, 14 ½ tackles for a loss and three sacks to help his team reach regional final (state quarterfinals) last season. Since the start of the year he announced 15 Division I offers on X. The list included Big Ten rivals Maryland, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Indiana. He comes from the same program that gave UW former quarterback Chase Wolf.

Committed: April 13

Hometown: San Juan Capistrano, California.

High school: Mater Dei.

Height: 6-3.

Weight: 195 pounds.

Ratings: ESPN and Rivals list him as a four-star prospect. 247sports and On3 give him three stars.

The lowdown: Hopkins played his junior season at Jserra Catholic, where, according to the Orange Country Register, he was a first-team all-conference selection who threw for 1,111 yards and 13 touchdowns and ran for 483 yards. One of his targets at Mater Dei’s high-powered program will be Ohio State recruit Chris Henry Jr.  

Committed: April 20.

Hometown: Midlothian, Virginia.

High school: Benedictine College Prep.

Height: 6-7.

Weight: 285 pounds.

Ratings: Considered a three-star recruit by 247sports, Rivals and ESPN.

The lowdown:  Cochrane received first-team all-state recognition after helping Bendictine win its second straight state championship. He chose the Badgers after announcing 15 FBS Division I offers on X, a list that included Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Rutgers.

Committed: April 8.

Hometown: Fishers, Indiana.

High school: Fishers.

Height: 5-11.

Weight: 185 pounds.

Ratings: Rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals, 247sports and On3.

The lowdown: Eloms received 12 Division I offers, but told the Indianapolis Star that he strongly considered Michigan State, Purdue and Vanderbilt before committing to the Badgers. He made 44 tackles and two interceptions last season. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds and has a vertical of 38 feet 3 inches.

Committed: April 7.

Hometown: Richton Park, Illinois.

High school: Rich Township.

Height: 6-7.

Weight: 250 pounds.

Ratings: Reed is considered a consensus three-star prospect.

The lowdown:  The Badgers got on to Reed just as he was blowing up this year. Since Jan. 31 he announced 16 Division I offers on X before commiting with the most recent coming from Missouri, LSU, Minnesota and Ole Miss. He recently had an impressive showing at the Under Armour Combine in Columbus, Ohio.

Committed: March 11.

Hometown: Mishawaka, Indiana.

High school: Penn.

Height: 6-0.

Weight: 185 pounds.

Ratings:  Bardo is a consensus three-star recruit.

The lowdown: In December, the Indianapolis Star named Bardo as one of early contenders for the 2025 Mr. Football award in Indiana after he caught 36 passes for 581 yards and eight touchdowns last season to help Penn go 8-3. He announced 17 Division I offers. That list included Big Ten rivals Michigan State and Indiana.

Committed: Oct. 7

Hometown: Merrillville, Indiana.

High school: Andrean.

Height: 6-6

Weight: 325 pounds

Ratings: Rivals, 247sports, On3 and ESPN rate Novak as a three-star prospect.

The lowdown: Novak committed to the Badgers in early October and later had his stock further solidified with an all-state selection. He had 10 offers when he committed that included Indiana, Kentucky and Louisville.
