The state semifinals for the MPSSAA’s baseball and softball seasons are set for this week, as Maryland teams prepare for their respective final four battles. With spots in each state championship game on the line, each pitch and each swing of the bat grows in importance for every team and player.
In the Bayside South, Parkside’s baseball team, and the softball teams for Stephen Decatur and Mardela will be among the teams competing in the state semifinals this week, as they each look to bring state titles back to Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Here is what you need to know for Bayside South teams playing in the upcoming Maryland baseball and softball state semifinals:
Baseball
After a 6-0 shutout regional playoff victory over Queen Anne’s, and a dominant 18-2 win over Middletown, the Parkside Rams are in the Class 2A State Semifinals. Parkside is playing its best baseball at the perfect time, and after winning the state championship in 2023, the Rams are now just two wins away from winning a second state title in three years.
But next up for Parkside is a state semifinal matchup on Tuesday in Hanover, Maryland. Parkside will play against North Harford at Joe Cannon Stadium on Tuesday, May 20, with the game set to start at 4 p.m. Following that game at Joe Cannon Stadium will be the other 2A semifinal game between Huntingtown and Hereford.
Softball
Stephen Decatur and Mardela were the two best teams in the Bayside South softball landscape this season. And after each won regional titles and dominated state quarterfinal matchups, both teams are now in the state semifinals in their respective MPSSAA classes. They will both play on Tuesday, May 20, and they will be playing at the same time and location as well.
Decatur, competing in Class 2A, will face Damascus on Tuesday in the Class 2A semifinals. And in the 1A semifinals, Mardela will face Allegany. Both teams will play at 4 p.m. at the Bachman Sports Complex in Glen Burnie, Maryland, with Mardela playing on Field 1 and Decatur’s game taking place on Field 4.
