These are the stories making headlines in fashion on Monday.

Anna Wintour urges courage on DEI

In a discussion with The Washington Post‘s Robin Givhan, Vogue editor Anna Wintour addressed her commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), ahead of accepting the 2025 Gordon Parks Foundation Award. Wintour acknowledged her past missteps, but said she’s dedicated to making changes. She’s also steadfast in continuing the momentum from the 2025 Met Gala to champion Black designers and urged others to stand up for diversity. “It’s a challenging time. I feel we need to be courageous,” Wintour said. {The Washington Post/paywalled}

Consumers pull back from beauty spending

The belief that beauty thrives in times of economic uncertainty is no longer true, per industry-wide Q1 performances. In addition to tariffs and a looming recession, analysts credit part of this to brands failing to platform cheaper impulse buys over their priciest small luxuries, unintentionally pushing shoppers away. However, beauty brands can court consumers via discounts and promotions to promote products in a cost-sensitive manner. {Business of Fashion/paywalled}

Ulta taps in-store associates for content creation

Ulta launched “Ulta Beauties,” a new internal ambassador program that taps in-store associates to make social content. The goal is to authentically connect directly with consumers and also better develop the company’s social marketing strategy. There’s a range of content types, including get-ready-with-me videos, product explainers and day-to-day rundowns. Participants also get expected ambassador perks like PR packages, paid press trips, educational opportunities and, of course, compensation per deliverables. {Glossy/paywalled}

Brands roll back tariff surcharges

Following the U.S.-China temporary trade agreement, brands are now reducing their tariff surcharges and price hikes. That said, the 90-day tariff pause only caused temporary relief: If the tariffs skyrocket again, the surcharges will resume. The uncertainty leaves business owners unable to properly strategize, with no set import price in place. There’s also supply chain chaos as brands panic to place inventory requests with manufacturers during the 90-day window, despite most factories being completely booked. {Modern Retail}
