PREP ROUNDUP: Berries blast Bison for DH sweep

Logansport softball team celebrated senior day by a combined score of 25-0 in a doubleheader sweep of Benton Central on Saturday at Fincher Field.

The Hoosier Conference champion Berries (20-4) were way too much for the West Division foe Bison (6-19).

Logansport won the opener 14-0 and game two 11-0.

A big storyline for the Berries this season has been the depth of the pitching staff. Gracie Risley, Natalee Packard and Brooklynn Hagerty have been utterly dominant.

Their No. 4 pitcher, freshman Mady Baumgardner, has been very good as well. Already having a 12-2 win over Class 2A No. 9 Winamac this season, she picked up both wins on Saturday to improve to 4-0 and lowered her ERA to 0.35 by pitching a pair of two-hit shutouts against Benton Central. She struck out 17 in her 10 innings on the day, eight in the opener and nine in game two, while walking only two.

She got plenty of run support. Packard went 6-for-7 with a home run on the day. Risley went 5-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs. Kellyn Cripe went 3-for-6 with six runs scored. Rylinn Spradling went 3-for-7 with two doubles and four RBIs. Baumgardner helped her own cause with two hits, an RBI and a run scored in game one.

The Berries close out the regular season this week with three games on the road, at West Lafayette Monday, McCutcheon Tuesday and Lewis Cass Friday.
